State Children's Arts Festival ? 2012 : Paint and win prizes ...

Children can submit paintings for the State Children?s Arts Festival ? 2012, a Cultural Affairs Department spokesman said.

The competition is organised by the Cultural Affairs Department and the arts and sculpture panel of the Sri Lanka Arts Council under the direction of the Culture and the Arts Ministry.

The competition is organised under the following categories: Primary competition - age between five and six, Post Primary Competition - age between seven and nine, Junior Competition - Age between 10 and 12, Senior Competition - Age between 13 and 15, Senior Secondary Competition - Age between 16 and 18.

Children are free to present their own creations to their preference. The size of the paper should be 18? X 14? and the painting could be done in any medium.

Entries with details of the child, including his or her name, birthday, address, telephone and district where they reside permanently should be submitted before May 15 to Secretary, State Arts and Sculpture Panel, National Art Gallery, Nelumpokuna Mawatha, Colombo 7. The entries should be certified that it is the student's own creation.

One hundred and fifty children will be selected from the first round. Children selected for the second round on district level will qualify to participate in a workshop organised by the Cultural Affairs Department.

Paintings drawn at the end of the workshop will be eligible for the State Children's Arts Festival ? 2012.

Certificates and awards will be presented to the winners. The first in each age group will receive a special award.

Meanwhile, children with top creations will receive awards while merit awards and certificates too will be presented.
